Cheap flights - buy quick!

Anyone thinking of flying to Minneapolis this spring/winter better act fast.

Northwest has $123, fee & tax included, between MSP and Chicago. Purchase by 12/27, travel between 1/8 and 3/9.

At this price it's cheaper than driving.

The Evil Eye

Old Wolfenstein

For those who haven't seen it, yes it really was this tedious.

But when I was eight years old it was absolutely chilling.

wuh wuh AAAAAUUUGGHHH!!

Ever make that sound when you wake up from a nightmare? Unable to scream, and talking through hot cottonballs?

Vice has a great article on hypnagogia.

Nice piquant illustrations too.

This show is every bit as good as it looks.

Chewy, like a big steak.

Sorry about the bitter post last time.

Here's something more groovy.

Turn down the sound if it irritates you.

"It is what it is"

I hate that phrase.

"It is what it is."

What a pointless, inelegant waste of breath. What was wrong with, "we can't do anything about it?"

Everyone who says "it is what it is" at my work is simply trying to skirt the issue or avoid the work.

UGH! I hate that phrase.

New bike, oh yes.

'07 Specialized Tricross Comp.

Lots of carbon goodies, 105 shifters, Ultegra derailleurs, high-flange hubs.

I was going to buy the Sport entry-level model (it had cooler paint), but the components weren't much of an upgrade from my old bike. So why not treat yourself?

Best feature: shallow-drop handlebars. Very comfy in the drops.

So far, after only two pathetically short rides (one with rain), it's been plenty fast and stiff. A lot twitcher than the Fuji Touring, but much racier. Looking forward to several long events next year: the Ironman ride, maybe RAGBRAI or a Wisconsin ride, definitely the MS150, the longer Tour de Cure, and a couple centuries around the metro. Credit-card touring to IL would be a nice vacation.

The problem is, this bike is too nice to take everywhere. I wouldn't trust leaving it locked in a park. So now I have to convert an old mountain bike into an urban asault vehicle. Or set up a single-ring 7-speed from an old road bike.

Movie Montages

As I was exploring the concept of a Montage Essentials mix CD, I came across this site:

An ode to the movie montage. If only they had embedded YouTube content...

Bridge turned out fine. Traveling a crapload for work. Kinda stunned by all this travel, actually. So no posting for a while.

Old posts

Blogger doesn't currently import old posts from another blog.

HOWEVER - there is a campaign underway to allow this. I've downloaded all the old posts and archived them.

As with the transition to the 2nd site version, pictures will not be inserted into the posts (if they are ever imported).

BUT - I have downloaded all the media from the 2.0 site and have it archived here if anyone wants it.

Though this was taken in winter 2002, it's totally appropriate now. It's like I'm looking at Amy's baby.
